Kansas Case Managers causing more problems than they solve?
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:42:15 PM »
I'm an advocate of the case management process, if the right procedures are used and the right process followed.  More and more, we hear nothing but horror stories about families who can't seem to get out of case management.  Some case managers apparently do not allow due process, and the judges simply support anything the case manager says because a family is labeled "high-conflict."

Here's one such case:

I have such a case, a female case manager was appointed after I had been put in the home with the kids due to the recommedation of a GAL, the case manager suggested within weeks with no further factual information the mother be put back in the home. She clearly had an agenda, by the way, she kept working at it and accomplished it a couple months later.

I would advocate judges being requried to attend training in the roles of GAL's, case managers, and having a basic understanding of psychological matters concerning kids and divorce. The judges should at least know what is expected.

KCDADof5,

You appear to have a misunderstanding of how the current system works.

You pay the GAL, Case Manager and other Court Appointed service providers. But, they work for the Judge on behalf of your children, not you.

The Judge's are the ones setting the standards, expectations and processes for the work these Court Appointed service people provide. If they want to continue to be assigned the work on cases they must follow what the Judge wants them to do and what they understand to be expected by the court without being stated by the Judge on the record.

These Court service workers can and will confer with the Court about your case without you ever knowing about it. The Court gets backdoor information on the case through this process.
